" Between Words " was a mural developed by Youngstown State University's Mural Class in collaboration with the people and staff at Ohio Living, a senior activity and living center. The mural represents the importance of inter-generational learning and community. The choice to have the piece made from hexagon-shaped pieces of masonite board rather than directly on the wall was made by the projects leader Professor Dragana Crnjak. The many parts help make this mural mobile as well as customizable to any wall it sits on. Another benefit of having the artwork in pieces was so it could be painted by others. We did four public painting sessions to complete the work and anyone in the community was invited to help.

I was a student in the Mural Class this past fall and I was given a leadership role do to my experience with murals. The design was developed by the class as a whole, but I completed the final rendering of the artwork, picked the final colors of the piece and did many rounds of painting.

One of the greatest joys given to me during this project was seeing the returning people from Ohio Living. They were truly such a pleasure to work with and I still see them out in the community sometimes. Nothing makes me happier than to say hello to them.
